The string of tents that had sprung up on the canalside were hosting at least 89 male asylum seekers according to Green Party leader Eamon Ryan. Many of the occupants were moved to several temporary accommodation centres yesterday, but dozens of migrants still remain in tents near the waterways, fresh images taken earlier today showed. The move marks the fourth time asylum seekers sleeping in tents have been shuttled away from parts of Dublin city in recent months - twice at Mount Street, close to the International Protection Office, and twice at the Grand Canal. It comes as Gardai launched an investigation into a suspected arson attack on a Dublin property earmarked to house asylum seekers.

British tourists are being urgently evacuated from the Pacific holiday island of New Caledonia as the French-run territory has erupted in deadly riots and looting. Over a week of riots has left six people dead and hundreds more injured, as cars, shops, and buildings are set ablaze and destroyed. With some 3,200 tourists trapped in the territory - British nationals are being supported by the UK government as it works on a coordinated response. The UK has joined forces with New Zealand and Australia in their efforts to rescue their citizens from the paradise-turned-hellhole. A man who set fire to set fire to a block of flats in retaliation for his step son being harassed has been jailed for six years. Craig McQuillian, 44, poured petrol on the front door of Thomas Shirley's 10th floor flat in Edinburgh in November last year, set it alight and walked away. CCTV footage captured by a neighbour's doorbell camera showed McQuillian calmly walking into a lift to return to the ground floor. A young child was in the property at the time of the incident and they notified Mr Shirley of the blaze. Firefighters were called and managed to put out the blaze before it took hold. However, a judge told him 'you only need to look at Grenfell Tower' to imagine the potential consequences of the incident. The High Court in Edinburgh heard how McQuillian carried out the attack because Mr Shirley had threatened his step son, Alexander McAdam. At the time Mr McAdam had started a relationship with Mr Shirley's former partner, Stacey Berkery, and the couple were expecting a baby together.

Downing Street today rebuked top minister Johnny Mercer after he was snapped with bare feet on a train while penning a bombshell memo about Rishi Sunak. The veterans' affairs minister was photographed by a fellow passenger without shoes or socks as he travelled from London to Exeter earlier this month. Images showed the Plymouth Moor View MP working on his laptop, while close-ups of his screen revealed Mr Mercer's scathing words about the PM's team in No10. In an extraordinary missive, Mr Mercer blasted aides for allowing Mr Sunak to hog the limelight and acting as if he is still as popular as he was when he first took office. The minister demanded that more popular Cabinet colleagues like Penny Mordaunt and Kemi Badenoch are instead given more media appearances. But, despite the cutting nature of Mr Mercer's comments, much focus was also put on the minister's decision not to cover his feet while sitting among fellow train passengers. Asked whether Mr Sunak thinks it is appropriate to take your socks off on public transport, the PM's press secretary told reporters this afternoon: 'Absolutely not.' She added: 'I think the PM will probably talk to him about the feet thing.' Mr Mercer attempted to explain his decision to go bare foot in a social media post, writing: 'So some little weirdo has gone round snapping my laptop reading private messages from a private email account. This is the comical moment two cheeky Labradors walked into a village petrol station to steal loaves of bread straight off the shelf. The doggy duo were caught on camera strolling into the garage in Leintwardine, Herefordshire, without their owner at 7.30am on Tuesday morning. CCTV captured the mischievous mutts browsing the shelves near to the dog food selection- before one of the pooches pilfered a loaf of bread. But the 'shoplifters' were thwarted by staff at Griffiths Garage as they made their way through the store with the loaf clasped in their jaws.

A deep-sea creature with teeth like pointed shards of glass and a 'light-bulb' antennae dangling from its head was found dead on the shore of Oregon - and it is the first to appear on the state's beaches.

The clip was filmed at Minsk Dolphinarium Nemo in Belarus, and shows the helpless mammal lying on the auditorium's floor next to its pool. Other dolphins can be seen swimming inside the tank, but appear to be distraught, with three popping their heads over to check on their stranded friend. One can be heard squeaking in apparent distress, while visitors at the amusement park watch on and film the upsetting scenes as music continues to be blasted in the background. A group of staff members then approach the marine animal and work to haul it back into the pen using a towel, with the crowd of parents and children gasping and cheering as they manage to put it back into the tank.

Disturbing video shows the moment a young boy is sent to sleep by a bully who put him in a headlock. The shocking footage, shared on X by Dillon Danis , showed an older-looking boy prepare to put another boy in a headlock. 'If I stay stop, you gotta stop,' the younger boy told his 'bully'. As the attacker wraps his arms aggressively around the other boy's neck, the victim struggled with his legs to escape and pry the bully's arms from around his neck. While the boy is placed in a headlock, the cameraman jokingly says 'worldstar' - referencing the website known for releasing fight compilation videos. Eventually, the bullied boy's body went limp and he fell face first into the dirt - where his bully drops him as the person videoing bursts out laughing.
