For example, Spanish has two genders: male (el) and female (la), but how these genders are assigned is often arbitrary. For instance, a chair is female (la silla) while glass is male (el vidrio). Many words that end in “tion” in English end in “ción” in Spanish, like “station” (estación), “exaggeration” (exageración) and “confusion” (confusion).
