Postdoctoral Researcher

    • Application Deadline
      Deadline:
      30 June 2012
      (application date has expired)

REFINE goal is to develop new skills and expertise in sustainable green materials manufacturing and technologies and applications. It builds upon the previous success of FP6 RTN BIOMADE and the unique combination of knowledge along the production chain in polymer and materials science, biotechnology and applications, ecological impact and Life Cycle Analysis. Conveying these skills and expertise to twelve early stage researchers and four experienced researchers is its core objective.
REFINE will develop a green technology, which can directly be validated and integrated by industry and thus lead towards a greener and more sustainable society. (http://www.fp7-refine.eu/)

    Requirements:
Applicants for a Post-doc position must be
in the first 5 years (full-time equivalent) of their research careers and
already in possession of a doctoral degree, independently of the time taken to acquire it or
having at least 4 years of research experience (full-time equivalent) after obtaining the degree which formally allows them to embark on a doctorate.

All applicants must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Germany for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the recruitment. The position includes interdisciplinary training, summer schools and yearly international meetings in Europe.

    Tasks:
EPEA will evaluate and assess the eco-effectiveness of selected processes/products. Therefore the candidate will obtain hands-on experience in carrying out material assessment within an industrial project context. The assessment of sustainability characteristics (human and environmental) of newly developed materials is at the core of EPEA’s work. EPEA’s Cradle to Cradle principles will furthermore provide a guide for the development of renewable functional materials in REFINE. The candidate will also have the opportunity to work with EPEA scientists and contribute to optimization projects, as well as to projects where Cradle to Cradle principles are used to stimulate innovation in products and services. A further aspect of work at EPEA is the certification of products, which offers another perspective on Cradle to Cradle optimization potential of industrial goods and consumer products (DSM high engineering plastics, Desso carpets). As the variety of project-related activities is very high at EPEA, there is considerable scope for the candidate to be placed in relevant projects, and to work with relevant international industrial partners.

    Your profile:
Your background should be a PhD in Chemical engineering/ biotech engineer, chemistry, or material science with knowledge in organic synthesis, polymers or biopolymers.
A strong technical background, toxicology and/or recycling knowledge as well as experience with Cradle to Cradle® is preferred.

We assume an experienced knowledge of MS Office, fluent English or German and the ability to work independently. Flexibility and willingness to travel complete your profile.

    We offer:
We offer a responsible full time position in an international, fast growing and innovative environment for two years.

The candidate will have strong contact to actual research within companies such as DSM, Croda or the DPI.
