Base 4 is a fast-growing scientific startup company developing high-speed single molecule detection platforms for use in the biomedical industry. Founded in 2007, our focus is on the optimisation and rapid commercialisation of devices for DNA sequencing, point-of-care diagnostics and genetic analysis, along with novel approaches to sample preparation, data handling and bioinformatics.

Working in collaboration with Cambridge University, Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, and The Genome Analysis Centre, we are quickly realising world-leading technologies with the potential for significant impact across the medical and life science industries.

Due to our continuing expansion we are seeking highly motivated, team orientated Molecular Biologists / Microbiologists to help us develop, optimize and test the sample extraction methods that enable our exciting new technology.

To qualify as a successful candidate we expect you to be able to thrive in a team environment of competent, intellectually competitive people. Creative thinking coupled with intellectual curiosity and a desire to tackle substantial problems is also essential. A flexible attitude is key, so be prepared and willing to ‘roll up your sleeves and wear several different hats when required!

You should be educated to PhD level, possibly have post doctoral experience, you will have extensive experience in bacterial culturing and nucleic acid extraction from a range of sample types (e.g. blood, saliva). A strong background in molecular techniques is required and expertise in diagnostic sample handling and nucleic acid based diagnostics would be preferred.
