  Terror teens named and shamed
Updated 20 March 2002, 14.58
Robert and Ben White
Two young brothers who have been linked to about 100 different crimes have been named and shamed in their home town.

Magistrates decided that the names of Ben and Robert White, 17 and 15, should be made public so the whole town of Weston-super-Mare knows what they've been up to.

Next time it's jail

It's really unusual for magistrates to allow young criminals to be named, as normally their identity is protected, but they made a special decision to overrule this.

The magistrates decided not to send the brothers to prison this time, but they extended their anti-social behaviour orders instead. But if they commit another crime, they could go to jail.

Crackdown on street crime

Ben and Robert are thought to be involved in joyriding, harassment, shoplifting and intimidation.

This comes as the Government revealed a crackdown on rising street crime, particularly by young offenders.

They've promised to be tougher and to act quicker on criminals - some as young as 11.

The main issues being targeted are muggings, robberies, truancy and drugs.
