AGROTOVE, S.A. was formed by the fourth generation of a family of breeders of cattle and, to a lesser extent, horses. It was the fifth generation, however, back in 1992, which embarked on an endeavour to create a herd of pure Spanish bred horses (PRE) within AGROTOVE. It was named the ESTEBAN STUD.

Following an in-depth study of the various existing lineage, a conclusion was reached that the origin of the herd had to be from both the SPANISH MILITARY STUD  and Mª FERNANDA DE LA ESCALERA. It was also concluded that the dominant coat should be black.

For this purpose, the ESTEBAN STUD  acquired its first two horses at an auction organized in 1993 by the SPANISH MILITARY STUD  at the Cortijo de Vicos. The mares, which came pregnant from their first labour, were HECATEA (chestnut coat) and INCERTEZA (black coat). The following year, ESTEBAN STUD  acquired FEMENINA (chestnut coat), again at an auction organized by the SPANISH MILITARY STUD. FEMENINA is considered to be the "GRANDMOTHER OF THE HERD” and as with the two mentioned mares also came pregnant, by BIZARRO XIV.

In addition, two colts, VENTUROSA (black coat) and VANIDOSA (chestnut coat), and a black stallion, FLAMENCO XXIV, were also acquired from Dª MARIA FERNANDA DE LA ESCALERA  that same year.

Later, in 1999, BRUJO XVI (black coat, and son of FELDESPATO), was acquired from the SPANISH MILITARY STUD.

Currently the ESTEBAN STUD  has 2 black stallions, BRUJO XVI and FARRUCO XLVI (son of FLAMENCO XXIV), and 15 mares, some of which are daughters of our stallions. Apart from the mentioned stallions, the mares are also being served by other black stallions belonging to the original lineage of the herd.

This rigorous selection has allowed us to follow our proposed objectives of origin, elasticity, movement, nobility and elegance, as well as the predominance of the black coat (around 80%).

The mares are bred in semi-freedom at the “La Torre” farm, where they have access to outstanding pastures. After the colts have been weaned, they are moved to the “La Vega” farm, where they are raised together with the members of their litter until they are three years old. The stud farm has had state of the art facilities at San Martin de la Vega (Madrid) since 2003, where the horses are broken in and trained. These facilities are comprised of 26 boxes, an indoor track, 3 outdoor tracks and an outdoor horse-walker.
