Welcome to Quest Installer

These release notes cover changes to version 4.2 of the Quest Installer. They identify requirements, new features, and known issues for this release.

How to enter your new Toad key

If you have purchased a new copy of Toad for Oracle, purchased an upgrade of Toad for Oracle or you are about to install a Trial version of Toad for Oracle, you will have received a single license key which activates ALL the components of Toad for Xpert Edition, Development Suite and DBA Suite.

For a new install - launch Toad for Oracle. You will be prompted to enter your license key. If you purchased Toad Xpert Edition or any of the Toad Suites, all components will be licensed from the same key.
For an upgrade to a different edition - launch Toad for Oracle. Select Help | Licensing and enter your new license key. Any new features will be switched on automatically and any additional Toad Suite components will be licensed from the same key.

New in This Release

New Features in Quest Installer 4.2

As this Quest Installer release is only a patch release there are no new feature as only change requests were performed.

MSI Extraction

The Quest Installer can be used to extract the MSI files from within the bundled software.

If you  are in the situation where you cannot run the Quest Installer to deploy your software, and require the individual MSI installers to deploy silent installation, the Quest Installer can be launched in 'Extract' mode. This allows the user to extract the various MSI files from within the bundled software.

The MSI files can then be run independently of the Quest Installer to deploy the various Quest applications.

Information on how to use the Quest Installer to extract the product MSI files, is available at: http://toadsoft.com/silentinstall/ToadforOracleEditions_Silent_Installation_Guide.pdf

Known Issues

The following is a list of issues known to exist at the time of the Quest Installer 4.2 release.

Change Request

Spotlight on Oracle Uninstallation Having upgraded to Spotlight on Oracle 7.1 from an earlier release of Spotlight on Oracle Standard Edition (for example via Toad 10.0), if you uninstall Spotlight with the Quest Installer, only part of Spotlight will be uninstalled.  This is due to RAC diagnostics and Predictive Diagnostics being added to Spotlight on Oracle 7.1.
Workaround: To complete the uninstallation, use Add/Remove Programs to remove “Spotlight on Oracle (Standard Edition)”.

Knowledge Xpert Installation:
If you use the <Back and Forward> buttons during a fresh installation into a Unicode location
When installing  Knowledge Xpert, if you navigate to the 'Product Selection' page and then use the <Back button to return to the *Install location (see Note below) and change the default directory to include a path with Unicode character(s) then navigate Next> to the product selection page again, you will be prompted to remove the Unicode characters from the install location. This will cause the Knowledge Xpert “Engine” to be installed incorrectly, causing an installation error.

If you do observe this behavior in the product selection page either:
• Uncheck Knowledge Xpert and continue installing your other selected products, then re-run the Toad bundle and install Knowledge Xpert into a non Unicode directory
or
• Cancel the install and re-run the Toad bundle and install Knowledge Xpert to a non Unicode directory

*Note: The 'Install Location' screen is only visible when installing a Toad bundle onto a clean machine (i.e. no previous installation of Toad are on it). If you already have a previous version of Toad on the machine, then this Unicode installation issue is not applicable to you.

Running the Quest Installer in 'Extract' mode when Toad 10.0 is installed on the PC If you perform an MSI extraction on a PC that has Toad for Oracle 10.0.0.41 installed on it... the silent installation parameters provided are for an upgrade.
Workaround: Please refer to the Toad for Oracle Editions Silent Installation Guide for information on the correct parameters to use during silent installations.
The extraction process should not be effected by what products are installed on the machine. This fix will be in the next version.

Toad for Data Analysts Installation:
TDA can only be installed into a directory containing English characters

If a non English character is used in the installation directory the Toad for Data Analysts installation will fail with a fatal error.

Workaround: When in the Product Selection screen of the Quest Installer only use a destination directory that contains English characters for the Toad for Data Analysts product.

Installation:
Toad for Data Analysis
TDA will abort the install if it detects a DB2 Version 7 client: TDA will exit the install if it detects that a DB2 client of Version 7 or lower is currently installed, and will return the error code 200.
Workaround: If the installation of TDA aborts with a 200 error code, rerun the installer and deselect TDA in the 'Product Selection' screen. All other applications should install correctly.
Other error codes that TDA may return (and will also abort the install process):
100 - MDAC version is older than 2.6.
256 - The internal command passed to msiexec exceeds 255 characters.
   500 - MSI execution failure.
N/A
Installation:
Windows 64 bit Operating System
Unable to install products under C:\Program Files in 64 bit Windows. When a user tries to install an application into the 'C:\Program Files' directory in a 64 bit operating system, the OS/MSI will convert it to 'C:\Program Files (x86)'.  In this case the install location path in QI is different from the actual location. This will mean that the customer will not be able to uninstall the application using the Quest Installer.
Workaround: Use the 'Add and Remove Programs' option within the Control Panel to uninstall the application.
N/A
Installation:
Performance issue related to digital signing
If the signed installer is located on a network share then the entire file needs to be transmitted (to the local machine) before installation can commence. This is because the entire file needs to be read in order to verify the digital signature.
Workaround: If you plan to run the Quest Installer frequently it is advised to copy the installation bundle to a local hard drive.
N/A
Installation:
The format of the file 'ToadStudioAdapter30.dll' is invalid
The format of the file 'ToadStudioAdapter30.dll' is invalid. This is related to having previously installed a version of 'Toad Studio' that included an old version of QAIT.
Workaround: This can be easily overcome by installing the latest version of QAIT. Please contact Quest Support for information on where you can obtain the newer QAIT version.
N/A
Installation:
Notification of insufficient space

Notification for insufficient space. The Quest Installer provides a warning during installation if insufficient disk space exists for the installation.
- If the installation is a new install, you may continue with the install, but it will fail due to a lack of disk space.
- If the installation is a repair or upgrade, you may continue with the install as it reuses disk space by overwriting the existing files.
