Description: 9’8”x30” and 9’0”x30”, for the hardcore and people
that want to get the most out of riding waves.
The fish-tail style shorter boards are the most
exciting and progressive shapes in the range.
They are still stable paddlers due to their 30” width
but they demand a slightly higher skill level to be
able to get the full potential out of them.
They feel more like surfing a shortboard in
comparison. With instant acceleration, their shorter
shapes allow you to pump down the line with
powerful, driven cutbacks and rapid response.
Gliding into tiny waves with ultimate ease, they
comfortably handle the speed of taking the drop on
larger waves.

Pros: fairly fast, carving cutbacks, very stable, sport tech is nice looking, can be used for wavesailing
Cons: too much nose, not enough nose rocker, tail is dangerous?
Rider Height: 5'11"
Rider Weight: 185 lbs
Rider Ability Level: 35 yrs surfing
Typical Water Conditions: slop surf

In the space of a year I have gone from a S.O.S 11'11"big red to a Blair 9'11 quad and now to this 9' fish. In 35 yrs of surfing , I have not tried fish shapes. First impression- this board is a sailboard made by sailboard makers. My sailing buddies said as much when they first laid eyes on it due to the rails. But-the more I ride this board the more I realize these guys are on to something. It's really stable for 9'! I find myself staying in the pocket on waves that I would have out run on my quad. For the first time I can make some pretty nice carving cutbacks and bottom turns that actually feel like "shortboard" turns. However, as with all boards there are things I don't like.
The nose just bothers me. It's just too much. It looks like something a beginner would need. When in critical steep sections I have "slapped" the bottom of waves and just about got myself into some pearl diving wipeouts that my other SUPS could handle better. The nose has very little rocker. This may be the source of its nice stability, but I feel I could do with less. Once you have experienced the magic rocker of the S.OS. big red and the Blair 9'11 quad it is hard to accept less.
All in all, if this had been my first shortboard SUP I would have been satisfied yet still wondering about what the possibilities are that lie ahead with sub 10' boards.
