It's all a crap shoot. I know if you bought mine, you wouldn't have to worry because I don't drag race it like a lot of other owners. If you find a car and are in good with either a good mechanic or a Honda dealer, have them go over the car. There have been some problems, but they should have been taken care of by now.

selling s2000
I have a 2000 with 29,450 miles on it. It has about $8,000 invested into it. I would like to sell for $25,000 but I can take all the aftermarket stuff off and sell for $21,000. Please let me know if you are interested. thanks.

Tough call on a used S. The problem is, most of them are going to be owned by enthusiasts which means they will be in VTEC quite frequently.
As a first step, you might consider finding a 'certified' used one at a Honda dealer with additional warrantee.
Definitely run the VIN number through carfax, whatever car you look at, to make sure it hasn't been totalled. A previous registration as "commercial vehicle" might indicate it was a rental (especially when the car first came out, some of the luxury car rental places had 'em), but in some cases leases are registered as such, so it's hard to be sure.
Strongly consider going with an '02 built in the second half of the year because it will have the updated oil injector bolts (not to mention glass rear window, upgraded stereo of '02 and on). There's a thread at S2ki.com that has the VIN cutoff for when the new oil bolts were installed.
As cool as it sounds, I'd stay away from a car with FI, or aftermarket exhaust because of problems with future warrantee claims.
