Sky HD – Sky High Definition
Sky HD was launched by Sky TV on 22 May 2006.
Currently, Sky TV customers with the entertainment channels package or Family Bundle, can obtain selected channels in HD by subscribing to the Family Bundle. The Family Bundle presently carries a £5 per month premium over the cost of the regular Variety Bundle.
Sky TV customers can access HD versions of Sky Sports and Sky Movies by upgrading to a separate HD pack subscription, currently priced at £5.25 per month. But you MUST already subscribe to the Family Bundle also.
High Definition (HD) channels are becoming more and more popular, due to the clarity and sharpness of the pictures they provide. High Definition TV pictures are lot sharper and clearer than standard TV pictures – with four time more detail than standard TV broadcasts.
Sky HD makes you feel and sense that you are closer to the action. HD (high definition) TV gives you an amazing life like viewing experience, that is now revolutionizes home satellite TV. Now you can watch SKY TV movies and sport in High Definition HD with sharper images, fantastic vibrant colours and clearer deeper detail that combined create a truly incredible television viewing experience. And it is not just the picture that improves. Many of the High Definition channels are also available in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound to make your High Definition viewing even more realistic.
Sky is currently offering more high definition TV channels than any other UK broadcaster – including rivals Virgin Media.
Do I need an HD-ready television to watch high definition programmes?
You need an HD-Ready television and an Sky HD or SkyHD digibox in order to view high definition programmes in high definition. You will need to connect the Sky digibox box to your television via HDMI. Once you have the right equipment installed, you can watch live sport, national events, stunning natural history, landmark drama, world-class documentaries and more in amazing HD.
Sky’s HD service is supplied with a special Sky receiver, the Sky+ HD Box, which is basically the popular Sky+ box with an output for connection to a high definition TV.
