Teachings

We teach what we learned

As Shaman and I learned to play our particular style of freestyle, I would sometimes have a video camera on a tripod.

When we hit a particular move that we were trying to learn, within the view of the camera, I could see it that night after digitizing the tape.

Digitization had to be done to memory in those days, in Mac terms, we were using System 7.   The key was collecting short video clips that showed the move.

The video was also useful to compare why one attempt worked, while another didn’t.  By watching Shaman’s eyes and feet, and our interactions, I learned a lot from the video feedback.

I organized the parts which could best be shown to others to teach what we learned.   The multimedia CD was the technology of the times.  I used an innovative presentation approach.  I’m told that the CD was useful to many players.  Several hundred were sold in both English and Japanese over several years.

Now in fall of 2009, I face a daunting task of re-digitizing all of Shaman’s footage, cataloging it, and trying to produce a modern information product that will present Shaman’s Teachings.
