BBC Radio 1 to broadcast midweek chart update
The Official Charts Company has today confirmed the launch of a new half hour show on BBC Radio 1 which will reveal midweek chart positions.

The new show to be broadcast on Wednesday afternoons will be based on sales flash data provided on the day.

OCC managing director Martin Talbot said the announcement was possibly the most significant change to the charts since the inclusion of download data.

"It could even be the biggest change to the chart in almost 60 years,” he said.

“It is also about trying to make the chart as relevant to people as possible.”

Talbot and Radio 1 head of music George Ergatoudis both believe that the new show will heighten interest in the weeks chart and encourage fans to support their favourite artists.

“We believe – and our research shows – that our young audience in particular is into the charts.

“Digital singles sales we know have been going up over the years and there have been some really strong stories that have ignited interest in the chart, like the Rage Against The Machine and Joe McElderry chart battle before Christmas.” he said.

The new "teaser" show, which will be presented by Greg James will broadcast from March 10th.

On a negative side approach it could be a bad thing, especially knowing a charity or a reality show track storm the #1 mid week its not going to budge an inch all week, its kills the Sunday chart permanently there is no fun in listening to the chart no more. Just have to wait and see when it all comes together.

I think it'll increase sales a tad more tbh. Because say if Glee Cast were announced as number 2 all week, behind Owl City for example, Glee fans will then know, they would need to get there heads into gear and buy, if they want Glee to get number 1. (Get what I mean? laugh.gif)
