ABSINTHE RANKING LISTS

THUJONE RANKING LIST:

For normal Absinthe is allowed a thujone content of 10 mg/kg. Only as "Bitterspirit" declared Absinthe may have a  thujone content of maximum 35 mg/kg thujone. In Czech Bitterspirit means: "Horka Lihovina", in France: "Amer aux Plantes d'Absinthe", in Germany just "Bitterspirituose". This law is valid in the whole European Union. If an absinthe is not declared as Bitterspirit (it has to be written on the bottle in every case), it cannot contain more than 10 mg/Kg thujone.  We have analysis of some Absinthe brands and, if You are interested in it, we can mail You some of these analysis. Also if it is written at some Absinthe brands, they would contain 35 mg/Kg thujone, You could call this statement as dubious, because there is still a tolerance. To hold this tolerance is very difficault, if You want to reach the limit and  for industrial Absinthe with big lot sizes normally not to hold. Only at very small lot sizes this ridge-walking can be hold (L`èxtrait de fée Absinthe and Songe Vert Absinthe).

Generally You can maintain: The bitterer an Absinthe tastes, the higher must be the thujone content, because:

Thujone = Wormwood = Artemisia Absinthium and wormwood is just bitter. Almost every Czech Absinthe is declared as "Horka Lihovina" and has cause of this a higher thujone content. French Absinthe is produced generally with a high Anise content and is cause of this, except some others (Lemercier Abisinthe Amer, Versinthe La Blanche), no Bitterspirit. So the Absinthe fan has to decide before, if he is an Aniselover (Ouzo, Pastis, Sambuca) or he likes more the wonderful herbal taste in Absinthe.

TASTE RANKING LIST:

Every Absinthe fan has his own preferences cause of the taste. There are people who like more herbal Absinthe, and there are others who like more anise-containing Absinthe. So none can maintain, that "this" Absinthe tastes bad and the "other" is good, because it is always the own individual taste.  But You can maintain, in what taste direction the Absinthe is. Taste is always a subjective factor at the choice of Absinthe. Following taste directions we can distinguish:
