Select Science Overview

Select Science provides an exciting, different, challenging, unique, and fun approach to this subject. What a concept! Whether you are new to the teaching of science, someone with a few semesters in the classroom, or have many years of classroom experience, Select Science is like a breath of fresh air.

We all know this age group—middle school students—can be like “information sponges,” that is, they will readily tackle any topic that interests them. We also know their need for “hands-on” learning—that's part of the fun and a critical part of the learning process. It was our objective and is our hope that Select Science provides you with the means to make science exciting, different, challenging, unique, and fun.

Well, it's also pretty tough to do. So, RonJon Publishing, a publisher in Denton, Texas, set out to do just that. And, we did.

You Should Use This Book

No One Else Comes Close. Here's Why...

You told us what you wanted in a science program—here it is.

We created a totally new book, specifically for Texas.

Students are really “turned off” with reading about science—but they have to read. We all know that.

Math is the “red flag” of science to some students—but they have to learn and apply math.

We wean the students from “cookbook” labs—it's a process called “Phasing.”

We invented the “seamless glossary.”

It's 100% Conforming... Well, actually more than that! The material greatly exceeds the minimum requirements in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (Click here for more information on the TEKS). But, better yet, the Select Science approach connects concepts and integrates the disciplines of life, earth, and physical sciences.

It's Vertically Aligned... Yes, it's vertically aligned. That's that phrase used to describe how three distinctly different books, used for three grade levels, could be created and put together so that the content “flows” across the grades. We did that (very well, too). Now, you won't have to. It seems a waste of time for you to—one more time—sit and create still another scope and sequence curriculum for your school. It's already done. Use it.

Here's how we did it. We didn't have any old books, or even any currently used books to pull from. So, we had to start fresh—from scratch. We developed a total science program from the ground up—not from shuffling content and adding some pages to an old, traditional program. By starting fresh, we were able to incorporate little hints, word phrases, and the like—to “jog” the student's recall of previous information. It works. It will work for you.

What's a “seamless glossary?...” What's a seamless glossary? Simple, we created a “science” glossary that spans all three grades. So, the glossary is identical for each grade level and contains all the appropriate words from all three grades.
