THE MOST IMPORTANT AND EXPENSIVE PART OF A VALVE AMPLIFIER ARE THE TRANSFORMERS.
Although the price is low, the HUGE POTTED "output transformers" are still bigger than amplifier that sells in England for GBP 4,000.
Here is a picture to prove it ........

Comparison of GBP 600 Affordable Valve Company EL34 valve amplifier
with Vincent  T.A.C. 34 and Magma EL34 valve amplifier
Question: I live in Paris and would like to know where I can listen to your KT88 models.
I believe that MAGMA sells your EL34 model under the brand valve audio ?
Answer :
Magma amplifier , T.A.C. 34 amplifier and our GBP 600 amplifier are different.
MONEY BACK GUARANTEE (less shipping cost. equipment returned during 1 month home trial) that
our GBP 410 Audio Institute VR-110 will sound the same as Magma valve amplifier
and 1149 Euro (about GBP 770) TAC 34
Please compare our GBP 600 EL34 valve amplifier with Magma EL34 amplifier and T.A.C. 34.
Our "main transformer" (the big lump of metal at back of the amplifier) is slightly bigger.
If you do not believe me, look at the photographs !
The bigger "mains transformer" gives a "less processed" sound.
Our bigger "mains transformers" uses thicker copper wire, with less resistance,
to produce less heat,
and runs cooler than the "standard" mains transformers
used by Magma and T.A.C. and our cheaper GBP 500 amplifier.
This is a good idea when you have a hot summer or live in a hot country.
Although we use a bigger mains transformer, we only claim 40 watts + 40 watts RMS.
TAC 34 uses a smaller mains transformer, and they claim bigger 50 watts + 50 watts RMS.
Usually, a bigger mains transformer will produce more power.
Many customer think that
our Svetlana EL34 valves
sound a bit more mellow
than Chinese EL34 valves used by Magma , Vincent TAC 34
Many customer think that
our American 5670 valves
sound a bit more mellow
than Chinese 6N3 valves used by Magma , Vincent TAC 34
I believe (but I have no proof)  that
The frequency response of Magma , Vincent T.A.C. 34 amplifier
will go up to 6 times above human hearing.
This is excessive, it is pointless for an amplifier to go 6 times above human hearing !
We have used 2 Silver Mica capacitor
to reduce the frequency response
to 3 times above human hearing.
This make our amplifier sound more mellow.
(We cannot reduce the frequency any less than 3 times above human hearing,)
(or we will spoil the frequency response, around 20 kHz.)
We also put in another ultra sonic filter to
reduce the ultra sonic noise from CD player
(or ultrasonic resonance of Moving coil cartridges)
I hope that you can agree that
there are a lot of difference for
GBP 100 (about 150 Euro) difference in price
between 750 Euro Magma amplifier
and our GBP 600 (about 900 Euro) amplifier + 80 Euro for delivery.
Most people will agree than our GBP 600 amplifier will sound
different to Magma EL34 amplifier and Vincent T.A.C. 34 tube amplifier.
You have to listen to all of these amplifier and decide which valve amplifier you prefer.
Different people have different taste
Vincent TAC 34  sells for 1,052 Euro
and our GBP 600 sells for ABOUT 900 Euro + 80 Euro for UPS delivery to Europe.

Our GBP 700 EL34 valve amplifier has 6 Silver Mica and sound even more mellow, with sweeter treble.
It also has a modification to improve the balance of the "push pull" and reduces distortion
WITHOUT INCREASING FEEDBACK.
We know this because we measure EVERY amplifier for distortion and "stability" !
This is a quick "quality control" procedure to make sure that
the EL34 valves are PROPERLY MATCHED,
to produce less distortion.

Comparison of GBP 650 Affordable Valve Company KT88 valve amplifier
with Vincent  T.A.C. 88 and Magma KT88 valve amplifier
Question: I live in Paris and would like to know where I can listen to your KT88 models.
I believe that MAGMA sells your EL34 model under the brand valve audio ?
Answer :
Magma amplifier , T.A.C. 88 amplifier and our GBP 650 amplifier are different.
Please compare our GBP 650 KT88 valve amplifier with Magma KT88 amplifier and T.A.C. 88.
Our "main transformer" (the big lump of metal at back of the amplifier) is slightly bigger.
If you do not believe me, look at the photographs !
This gives a "less processed" sound.
TAC 88 uses a smaller mains transformer, and they claim bigger 60 watts + 60 watts RMS.
Usually, a bigger mains transformer will produce more power.
We use 4 pieces of American 5670 valves,
which is totally different to the 1 small and 1 medium sized valves used by Magma and T.A.C.
The sound will be different !  Which amplifier sound better ?
You will have to listen for yourself, and let your ears decide !
It is your money, it is your ears, you have to decide for yourself !
I believe (but I have no proof)  that
The frequency response of Magma , Vincent T.A.C. 88 amplifier
will go up to 6 times above human hearing.
This is excessive, it is pointless for an amplifier to go 6 times above human hearing !
We have used 2 Silver Mica capacitor
to reduce the frequency response
to 3 times above human hearing.

( or we will spoil the frequency response, around 20 kHz. )
We also put in another ultra sonic filter to

( or ultrasonic resonance of Moving coil cartridges )
Vincent TAC 88  sells for 1,159 Euro
and our GBP 650 KT88 amplifier sells for ABOUT 975 Euro + 80 Euro for UPS delivery to Europe.
They are 2 different design, and they will sound different.
You have to listen to BOTH amplifiers and decide which you prefer.
Some people will like the Magma KT88 "Ultra Linear" or Vincent TAC 88 "Ultra Linear",
and some people will like Affordable Valve Company KT88 "Ultra Linear".
I think that most (but not all) people will
prefer our KT88 "Triode Connection" to KT88 "Ultra Linear"
You have to listen to all of these different amplifiers to
and decide which amplifier you like more !
Different people have different taste.

I  can guarantee you that there is an "medium size" difference between
KT88 "Triode Connected" and KT88 "Ultra Linear".
The "medium size" difference is 10 times more than
changing cables, capacitors (of the same valve) , silver wiring , hard wiring
and all the other "fashionable" nonsense described in Hi Fi magazine and Internet Forums !

Our GBP 750 KT88 valve amplifier has 6 Silver Mica and sound even more mellow, with sweeter treble.
It also has a modification to improve the balance of the "push pull" and reduces distortion
WITHOUT INCREASING FEEDBACK.
We know this because we measure EVERY amplifier for distortion and "stability" !
This is a quick "quality control" procedure to make sure that
the KT88 valves are PROPERLY MATCHED,
to produce less distortion.

Affordable Valve Company

Please visit our eBay shop at

http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Affordable-Valve-Company

WARNING - There are 2 version of this amplifier.

This auction is for original Chinese version for GBP £1000.
Please listen to the German distributor version, and buy from us and save GBP £500 !

There is a MODIFIED IN ENGLAND BY 'LIM AIK LEONG SIGNATURE' version for GBP £1050
with 1 month home trial (less shipping cost of GBP £30 + GBP £30. equipment returned during 1 month home trail)
Upgraded with 2 pieces of Silver Mica Ultrasonic filter,
blatantly obvious sweeter treble and less sibilance (when a woman say 'hiss', it sounds like 'hissssssk'),
big improvement in 10 kilohertz square wave
in our eBay shop at  http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Affordable-Valve-Company

Please see review on page 60 of June 2007 Hi Fi World magazine
for the German distributor version of this very powerful
GERMAN DISTRIBUTOR CLAIMED 120 watts + 120 watts
valve / tube amplifier.

Picture hosted by "Verio".  Please tell us if there is a problem with "Verio" server.  Thank you.

Is this a 120 watts + 120 watts amplifier
or 80 watts + 80 watts amplifier ?
For 7 years, I have been telling customer that
the CLAIMED specification of amplifiers, speaker, etc are totally meaningless.
The German distributor of this valve / tube amplifier
claims 120 watts + 120 watts (which is a bit optimistic)
June 2007 Hi Fi world review measured it at 85 watts + 85 watts.
We are valve / tube specialist, and we know what we are doing,
so we have always claims 80 watts + 80 watts.
We even have 80 watts + 80 watts printed on the front panel of the amplifier.
Hi Fi dealers selling the German distributor version of this amplifier should remove
all references to the false claim of 120 watt + 120 watts,
because they are breaking British law.
(The law assumes Hi Fi dealers to be professionals,
so Hi Fi dealer cannot 'play dumb'
and pretend that they did not know that the amplifier only produces 85 watts.)
If you have bought on of the German distributor version of  this amplifier
because they CLAIMED 120 watts,
you can take these Hi Fi dealer to small claims court and get some damages
(If you are lucky, you might even get your money back, to buy our amplifier and save GBP £500
or GBP £450 if you want the Lim Aik Leong Signature version !)
The other party will have to pay court fees, some legal cost, etc
I expect that the Hi Fi dealer will settle out of court and refund you some money,
maybe even GBP £500.

We are valve / tube specialist, and we know what we are doing,
and we do not make false claims to deceive Hi Fi enthusiast !

Money Back Guarantee of excellent sound & build quality
If you can find a better sounding amplifier,
we will refund your money ( less £60 or £30 , within 30 days )
If you do not prefer this amplifier to -
£100 to £100,000 transistor amplifiers
£100 to £100,000 valve / transistor hybrid amplifiers
£100 to £100,000 any valve amplifiers with smallish output transformers (especially bass)
£100 to £100,000 "Single Ended" valve amplifiers (especially bass)
£100 to £100,000 "6550 Ultra linear" valve amplifier
£100 to £100,000 "EL34 Triode Connection" with smallish output transformers (especially bass)
etc , etc , etc
we will refund your money ( less £60 or £30 , within 30 days )
There are VERY FEW amplifiers that will sound better than this 80 watts + 80 watts valve amplifier.
They are our
£1,400 "Svetlana KT88 Triode Connection - High End" (in stock + listed on eBay)
£1,000 "Svetlana KT88 Triode Connection - Lim Signature" (in stock + ask us to list on eBay, if you are interested)
£1,100 "300B Push Pull" (more stock in 2 months)
If you do not believe us,
and you can find a better sounding amplifier (regardless of price or hype),
we will refund your money ( less £60 or £30 , within 30 days )

Our eBay "starting bid" is £30 cheaper than our "normal" price,
(if you include the £30 delivery cost in your calculations.)
However, if you return the amplifier,
you lose £60,
whereas the customer buying at the "normal" price will only lose £30.
90% of our customers keep our valve amplifiers !
If you are 99% certain that you want to buy (and keep) our amplifiers,
then you should place a "starting bid",
and save £30.
90% of our customers keep our valve amplifiers !
If you are not sure
about whether or not you want to keep or return the amplifier,
do the eBay "buy now" at the "normal" price,
and you will get FREE DELIVERY (to U.K.),
and you only lose £30, if you return the amplifier.
90% of our customers keep our valve amplifiers !
If you are using 10 inch or 12 inch woofers,
this model has a better bass slam than our £640 (starting bid) 40 watt + 40 watts amplifier
(tell us if you want to audition one, and we will list it on eBay , and you could save £30 off our normal price)
if you are using 10 inch or 12 inch woofers.
The "typical" 6 inch woofers will produce 1% to 3% of distortion for 10 watts of bass,
so it is better to test for "bass slam" with 12 inch woofers,
which are 5 times bigger than 6 inch speakers,
if you ignore the "useless" metal frame, and part of the "useless" cone surround,
and measure the "moving area".
If you only have 6 inch speakers, and you want to test for bass slam,
you could connect up 4 pairs of 6 inch speakers.
( 2 pairs in parallel + 2 pairs in parallel. Then connect them in series. )
(                   This should keep impedance the same.                        )
( MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE IN THE CORRECT PHASE )
(                 OR THE BASS WILL CANCEL OUT.                      )
(                 "Destructive interference" of sound waves                     )
Our £640 (starting bid) 40 watt + 40 watts valve amplifier has excellent bass,
and will match (or beat) most transistor amplifiers.
Just ONE of the mains / power transformer on £700 40 watt + 40 watt weighs more than 8 kilograms,
which is as much as the "typical" transistor amplifiers, selling for a few hundred pounds !
But when it comes down to "brute force" of a HUGE bass slam into HUGE 12 inch woofers,
the £940 80 watt + 80 watt valve amplifier wins !
If you compare human voices and sweet treble of this 80 watts + 80 watts valve amplifier
against "high end" transistor amplifiers and £3,000 valve / tube amplifiers,
most (but not all) people will prefer this 80 watts + 80 watts "MODIFIED IN ENGLAND" valve amplifier.
This 80 watts + 80 watts "MODIFIED IN ENGLAND" valve amplifier
will sound different to the Euro 2000 (about £1,500) TAC 834 which has NOT been "modified in England".
Please audition this "MODIFIED IN ENGLAND" amplifier with the Euro 2000 (about £1,500) TAC 834
and decide which amplifier you prefer.
If you audition this amplifier
(with our FREE £50 upgrade)
(with large value of Silver Mica capacitors and another ultrasonic filter)
against £3,000 valve amplifiers sold in shops
or £4,000 valve amplifiers sold in shops,
you will probably prefer this £940 valve amplifier.
(with our FREE £50 upgrade)
(with large value of Silver Mica capacitors and another ultrasonic filter)
We are that confident,
that we will refund MOST of your money, less £30 or £60, within 1 month,
if you think that £3,000 valve amplifier sold in shops sound better !

This amplifier looks like the Euro 2,000 (about £1,500) TAC 834.
Dealers in England are selling the TAC 834 for £1,500 !
( What else is new ? You can buy British made car in Belgium, )
( cheaper than from the British car dealer, )
( who located beside the British car factory ! )
This POWERFUL "High End" VALVE amplifier with HUGE potted transformers,
that makes the transformers on £4,000 amplifier look small !
We also challenge you to audition our "80 Watt + 80 Watt High End" against £4,000 valve amplifier,
and if you think that our "80 Watt + 80 Watt High End" does not match (or beat) the £4,000 VALVE amplifier),
we will refund your money (less £30 for return carriage, within 30 days. Also the original £30 delivery cost is NOT refundable.)
Over the last 4 years, we have been trying to tell everybody that
£1,100 TAC 88 (which has 7 valves) is different to our
£1,400 "KT88 Triode Connection" (which has 8 valves),
but some unscrupulous dealers are still telling customer they are the same !
If you like GBP £1,100 TAC 88
you can buy the Chinese version for GBP £800 in our eBay shop at  http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Affordable-Valve-Company
If you like GBP £1,100 TAC 88
you can buy the MODIFIED IN ENGLAND BY 'LIM AIK LEONG SIGNATURE'
Upgraded with 2 pieces of Silver Mica Ultrasonic filter,
blatantly obvious sweeter treble and less sibilance (when a woman say 'hiss', it sounds like 'hissssssk'),
big improvement in 10 kilohertz square wave
in our eBay shop at  http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Affordable-Valve-Company
Our attitude is
"If you can't beat them join them !"
Our "80 watts + 80 watts" looks like Euro 2,000 (about £1,500) TAC 834 !
Yes, I know that dealers are selling the Euro 2,000 TAC 834 for £1,500.
We are not called "rip off Britain", without reason !
Yes, I know that TAC 834 claims more than "80 watts and 80 watts",
but we do not want to get into trouble with the law called "Trade Description Act",
so we put in a "conservative" 80 watts + 80 watts rating, that we can prove to be correct !
This is a 80 watts + 80 watts  valve amplifier , WITHOUT HUGE HIDDEN CHARGES ,
like shipping from China , "hidden" Import Duty and "hidden" VAT.

The most important components of a valve amplifier are the valves and transformers.
And reasonabley priced ultrasonic filrers like Silver Mica capaitors
of the CORRECT VALUE in the CORRECT POSITION
(HUGE changes to cymbals, silnabce on human voices, 10 kiloherst sqaurewave, etc)
Different brands of valves do sound SLIGHTLY different,
but,
the difference in sound (especially bass + edgy or smooth midrange or human voices)
between a SMALL transformer and a BIG transformer is HUGE !
The difference caused by £10 volume controls , £10 wires ,
different types of £10 "plastic film" capacitors are TINY
( when compared to the EXPENSIVE £250 + £250 + £150 = £650 of the "all important" transformers )
The huge £250 + £250 = £500 "potted" transformers are 120 mm x 105 mm x 106 mm (each)
The huge £150 mains (power) transformer weighs more than 8 kilogram (on it's own) !
The joke is our £150 mains (power) transformer (on its' own)
will weigh more than the "typical" transistor amplifier sold in "high street" shops !
Does it affect the sound ?  YES !
Try it for yourself with our 1 month home trial ( less £30, within 30 days. Also the original £30 delivery cost is NOT refunded )

12 June 2004 - Question from eBay member
does this amp have remote control?
Answer
Most (but not all) remote control will spoil the sound !
I better explain this "sweeping statement",
or you will think that I am trying to sell you our amplifier,
by telling lies !
------------------------------------------------
The easiest way to prove that I am telling the truth is for you to
audition 2 recently reviewed amplifiers with valves AND REMOTE CONTROLS like
£2,900 American valve / tube amplifier (WHICH HAS REMOTE CONTROL)
that the June 2004 issue of an English Hi Fi magazine described as
"overall tonality does tilt toward the bright and shiny"
and should be connected to "loudspeakers that are naturally warm and rich",
and then gave the amplifier a "Best Buy" award.
or
£5,350 American valve / tube and transistor amplifier (WHICH HAS REMOTE CONTROL)
that is described in June 2004 issue of an English Hi Fi magazine as
"doesn't perhaps achieve the best characteristic of thermionic and solid state technology
........ midband did seem a trifle congested, with slightly smeared voices"
against
our £940 (starting bid) valve / tube amplifier
( Included in the price is a "free" £50 upgrade with larger value of the Silver Mica capacitors, and another "ultrasonic" filter. )
This £940 (starting bid) amplifier does NOT sound "bright and shiny".
It is NOT warm (with lots of ?nice? 2nd harmonic distortion.
?nicely? distorted sound is NOT HIgh FIdelity !)
It is NOT cold (with lots of "Class B crossover distortion")
It is NEUTRAL. ( HIgh FIdelity means a NEUTRAL accurate reproduction of the original sound.
"With nought added, and nought taken away !" )
( We are so confident that our MODIFIED IN ENGLAND amplifier sounds so good,
that you have MONEY BACK GUARANTEE (less £30 return carriage / fee , within £30 days.
Also the original £30 delivery cost is NOT refunded.)
This £940 (starting bid) amplifier does NOT sound "congested, with smeared voices".
This £940 (staring bid) has VERY BELIEVABLE human voices , when connected to
WELL DESIGNED (that can range from £8,000 down to a hilarious £250) "3 way" speakers,
when using a "live" recording
and the volume control adjusted so that the voices are at a REALISTIC LIFE SIZE volume.
You CANNOT trick your brain into believing that the singer is in the room with you ,
if the singer is 10 times louder than a REAL Human Being !
( We are so confident that our MODIFIED IN ENGLAND amplifier sounds so good,
that you have MONEY BACK GUARANTEE (less £30 return carriage / fee , within £30 days.
Also the original £30 delivery cost is NOT refunded.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
DEPENDING ON HOW YOU IMPLEMENT THE REMOTE CONTROL,
you get the problem of
1. The "typical" remote controls uses a lot of transistors.
In most (but not all) remote control, the audio signal has to go through many transistor !
What is the point of build a valve/ tube amplifier,
and then pass the audio signal through transistors ?
2. If you are using relays,
"Is it a good (or bad) idea to pass the audio signal, near the magnetic field of the relay ?"
3. If you are using a "motorized volume control",
"Is it a good (or bad) idea to pass the audio signal, near the magnetic field of the electric motor ?"
( Most small motors have a PERMANENT MAGNET.                        )
( This is still a STRONG POWERFUL magnet, even when you are NOT "using" the motor )
4. "Digital noise" from the "micro controller"
(which is a microprocessor with "built in" input/output ports ,
a bit of "built in" memory like EPROM , etc).
     Due to stray inductance,
electrolytic capacitors CANNOT "absorb" ""High frequency digital noise",
so the "digital noise" gets into the power supply of the audio section.
Even a tiny 1 inch of PCB track will act as a radio antenna,
and "transmits" the "digital noise" as radio waves to the audio amplifier.
You do not need big radio aerials.  How big is the aerial on your mobile phone ?
( Do you remember OLD transistor AMPLIFIER that could receive CB radio, taxi radio, police radios !)
( It is a bad idea to have radio waves INSIDE the metal box of the amplifier. )
5. You also get "radio" remote control,
which will also generate a lot of "high frequency noise",
    INSIDE the amplifier.
( Do you remember OLD transistor AMPLIFIERS that could receive CB radio, taxi radio, police radios !)
( It is a bad idea to have radio waves INSIDE the metal box of the amplifier. )
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I disagree with the article in an English Hi Fi magazine that said that the
"valve amplifier companies tend to be ....small - scale , enthusiast led affairs
... lacking resources and will to implement ..
complex microprocessor control system (Most people call this a "remote control" !)"
There are probably MANY people who will agree with the the above statement,
and think that I am only "waffling" and writing weak excuses,
because the Chinese Designer (in China) and I (in England)
do not know how to put remote controls into our amplifier .
If you look on page 622 of Maplin Electronic catalogue for September 2003 to August 2004,
you will find a £60 remote control preamplifier (with relay switching and motorized volume control)
Surely, if somebody is INTELLIGENT enough to design and build a valve amplifier,
he (or she) can buy the £60 remote control preamplifier,
and EASILY "adapt" ?copy? the design / PCB / etc  !
The Chinese designer (in China) , and I (in England)
do have the brains to put a remote control into our valve amplifiers !
The Chinese designer (in China) , and I (in England)
do NOT want  a remote control in our valve amplifiers,
because
most remote control spoil the sound !
BEFORE you say that
most TRANSISTOR amplifier have remote controls,
please audition this £940 (starting bid) valve / tube amplifier against the
MOST RESPECTED , MOST EXPENSIVE , MOST HIGHLY REVIEWED
TRANSISTOR preamplifier / power amplifier / mono blocks / extra power supply / etc
with remote controls.
( We are so confident that our MODIFIED IN ENGLAND amplifier sounds so good,)
( that you have MONEY BACK GUARANTEE (less £30 return carriage / fee , within £30 days.
Also the original £30 delivery cost is NOT refunded.)

Question from eBay member on 11 July 2004
Hi, I wonder if you have the schematics of this amplifier... and its cost. Thanks,
Answer
Sorry,
Whenever there is a successful design,
competitors will want to copy the successful design.
There is nothing to stop a competitor from buying one of our amplifier & copying it.
But we do not want to make it easy for our competitors,
but giving schematics (circuit diagrams) to strangers.
The next thing I know,
there will be our our schematic published on some internet website,
for everybody to copy !
Besides, even if you get the schematics,
you will not be able to get
THE ALL IMPORTANT HUGE "HIGH END" POTTED OUTPUT TRANSFORMERS !
( Which is probably designed by one of the BEST Chinese transformer designer ! )
We use a little bit of "negative feedback".
When you use negative feedback,
the stray inductance and stray capacitance of the "output" transformers
WILL AFFECT THE DESIGN.
If you change the output transformer
AND YOU USE NEGATIVE FEEDBACK,
you might have have to change to design (a bit),
to ensure that the amplifier remains "stable" ( for treble AND BASS ! ).
This is one reason
why somebody could build the FAMOUS Williamson amplifier,
WITHOUT USING MR WILLIAMSON'S DESIGN FOR THE OUTPUT TRANSFORMERS,
and then complain about stability, etc !
12 July 2004 - Question from owner of £1,300 "KT88 Triode Connection - High End"
Subject : Lim; looking on Ebay as you prompted
Oh dear I should stop sending you such emails; I was being a little provocative of course.
I DO NOT want to buy any other amp; I am entirely satisfied with my KT88 Triode.
Do you know it continues to grow on us and delight us. Listening to our music collection is like listening anew!!!
I only went "online" to ebay at your suggestion following
that philosophical discussion we were having about UK Hi-Fi being all about power and loudness.
That was why I was surprised to see you selling 80W outputs when we both agreed that KT88 Triode at 20W is more than sufficient.
Answer
?Nov?2003? Hi Fi Choice tested
£2,500 .......censored......
with 6 inch woofer
produces about 1% distortion for about 8 watts of bass.
?Nov?2003? Hi Fi Choice tested
another different £2,500 .......censored......
with 6 inch woofer
produces about 3% distortion for about 13 watts of bass.
If you own the "typical" or "high end" 6 inches speakers,
it is pointless to have more than 20 watts of bass,
because MOST 6 inch speakers CANNOT COPE with 20 watts of bass !
To the best of my knowledge, there is only one 6 inch drive unit that will cope with 20 watts of bass.
This is an "over the top" drive unit with an Xmax that is 3 times more than the typical Xmax of +-3 millimetres.
This extraordinary Xmax is achieved by having 2 "spider" suspension, instead of the "typical" 1 "spider" suspension.
To the best of my knowledge, this drive unit is NOT used in any COMMERCIAL Hi Fi speaker.
Please ignore ANOTHER speaker manufacturer who like to confuse people,
by quoting Xmax of 6 millimetres, when they actually mean +- 3 millimetres !
You should be aware that MOST (but not all) valve / tube amplifier that
claims to produce 20 watts or even 40 watts (in the midrange) ,
might NOT produce 20 watts at 20 Hertz at a reasonable distortion !
Just look at "serious" Hi Fi magazines that
publish distortion figures of valve / tube amplifiers at 20 Hertz !
Even the "watered down" power at 40 Hertz or 80 Hertz is usually disappointing.
You really need HUGE output transformer and "push pull" operation to get 20 watts at 20 hertz.
From a commercial viewpoint,
I will NEVER be able to convince EVERYBODY
that
20 watts WITH GOOD BASS is enough.
Why argue with "paying customers" ?
They get "hot under the collar".
I get "hot under the collar".
Why don't I sell the 80 watts + 80 watts valve / tube amplifier ?
Customers are happy.
I make some profit.
Everybody is happy !
