2007 Attachmate(legacy WRQ) Wine Tastings


Champagne tasting 13-Dec-2007


1) Mumm Napa, Brut Prestige, $13.99

-Light straw color, tiny bubbles, nice-tart finish.
-Fruity, apple - lots of bubbles - I like it.
-Fruity.
-2nd taste: Granny smith apples, very fresh.
-Nice yeasty nose, good fruit, good value.

2) Schramsberg, Blanc de Blancs, Vintage 2004, $26.99

-Very dry, somewhat yeasty.
-Yeasty.
-Austere, but excellent. Favorite.
-This and the Argyle are my favorites.

3) Roederer Estate, L'Ermitage, Brut, 2000, $32.39

-Apples, toasty, nice finish.
-Tart finish.
-More fruit tan yeast and toast. Good with a palate, it has a fruity opening with a fresh citrusy finish.

4) Charles Heidsieck, Brut Reserve, $33.99

-Some bitterness on the finish.
-Fruity.
-Yeasty.
-Toasty. Yeasty. Tiny bubbles.
-Lovely! Lots of bubbles, toasty.
-Classic yeast/toast. Good.

5) Argyle, Extended Tirage, 1997, $31.29

-Opens with jasmine.
-Perfume.
-Fairly austere but with nice hint of fruit. Yeasty. #2
-Flowery nose, some tart apple with steely overtones. #1

6) Nicolas Feuillatte, Rose, $35.39

-A slight bitter finish, like a grapefruit.
-After the Argyle, it’s sour. Metallic finish.
-Fruit bomb for champagne.
-Not my favorite, but a good match with pears.

1) Barrister, Columbia Valley, 2005, 14.3%, $25

-Barnyard smell
-delicious, but does not smell like a Cab Franc.
-86% Cab Franc & the rest Cab Sauvignon, tastes great, but more like a Cab Sauvignon.

2) Windy Point , Yakima Valley, 2004, 13.8%, $20

3) Tamarack Cellars, Columbia Valley, 2005, 13.8%, $27

-Great example of a Cab Franc in nose & taste.

4) O.S. Winery, Champoux Vineyards, Horse Heaven Hills, 2004, 14.4%, $28

-Fruity smell.
-Cloudy in color, more medium in body, a little spice.

-Nice Nose for Merlot.
-Liked this one!
-Great nose, ripe blackberries, great mouth feel.

2) Novelty Hill, 2004, Columbia valley, $19

-Very good!

3) Balcom & Moe, 2001, Pasco

4) Facelli, 2004, Bacchus Vineyard, Columbia Valley

-This one makes me cough.
-Liked this - jammy, but good.
-Lots of chery and spices, with a good finish.

5) Forgeron, 2002, Columbia Valley, $27

6) Decima Aurea, 2001, Tenuta Santa Maria, Veneto, $46 (Outlier)

-Barnyard nose, lots of tannins.

7) Terrra Blanca, 2002, Red Mountain Vineyard

-I'd buy this. Surprisingly, I liked the jammy Merlots.

-Very good, well balanced
-Herbaceous
-vanilla, with a nice finish

-Fruity

3) Tamarack Cellars, 2005, Columbia Valley, Firehouse Red, $18

-A bit thin in the mouth, but nicely structured.
-Cherry, with a nice finish

4) Domaine Pierre Noire, 2005, Columbia Valley, Vin Rouge, $21

-Thick - a lot of merlot in it?
-Slight bitterness on first taste.

5) Syncline, 2005, Columbia Valley, Subduction Red, $20

-Syrupy, viny. Hard to imagine with food.

6) Willow Creek, 2004, Yakima Valley, XIII, $25

-Raspberry jam. Thick and fruity.

7) L'ecole 41, 1996, Seven Hills Vineyard, Walla Walla Valley, Barrel Select, $38

-Vanilla nose, cherry and spice.
-fruit forward and spicy.
-Later on...cough syrup.

-Smooth, plum.
-Smoother, dry.

4) Paradisos del Sol, 2002, (69% Lemberger, 31% Cabernet)

-On the blacker side of cherry, towards prune.

-Spicy, more like #1.

-Lots of summer apples with a bit of spice.

1) cantina del pino, barbera d'alba, 2004, $42

-From 1 to 3, 1 is my favorite.
-Fruity.
2nd bottle: fruity, mellow, nice nose with a little must.

2) cantina del pino, barbaresco, 2002, $42

-Big, round flavor.
-Almost too tight - after a 1/2 hour still strong.

3) Podere Ruggeri Corsini Langhe, nebbiolo, 2004, $34

-I'm liking it; very yummy.
-Plum.
-Had to drink too fast. Mark said "Empty your glass!"
-Too tame for my taste.

4) Damilano, Barolo, $45

-Beautiful bouquet, round rich, very french. No surprise it is a Barolo.
-Great nose.
-Lots of heavy raspberry-dark wine.

-Floral nose, a little pepper, good finish.

2) The Chocolate Block, 2005, Boekenhoutskloof, (46% Syrah, 22 % Grenache, 14% Cabernet, 14% Cinsault, 4% Viognier) , $38

-Wonderful and complex, nice bouquet.
-Full nose, cocoa powder, intense flavors, great tannins.

3) Indaba, 2005, Pinotage, $10

-Nice wine just for enjoyment. Great value.

4) Neil Ellis, 2003, Shiraz, Stellenbosch, $21

5) The Wolf Trap, 2005, (65% Syrah, 19% Cinsault, 11% Mourverde, 5% Viognier), Boekenhoutskloof

-Full bodied, spicy, great finish.
-Maybe best of the night maybe
-light and unintentious

-Smooth, light.
-Cherry Soda pop

3) Patricia Green, Ribbon Ridge, 2005

-Big kick, great finish.
-Great nose.
-Great stuff, good nose.

4) Benton-Lane, 2005

-Good. Nice lingering aftertaste.
-Soda pop, possibly Dr. Pepper.

5) Abbey Page, 2005

-Kind of watery.
-weak.

6) Cavabella, Les Meres, Willamette Valley, 2002, $22

-Bland.
-Quite a disappointment compared to the last PN tasting.

7) Willakenzie estate, Willamette Valley, 2000, $25

-Not outstanding but pretty good; at least its varietals.

8) Patricia Green, Willamette Valley, Croft Vineyards, 2005

-Nice musty aftertaste.
-Big bold flavors.
-Long finish.
-Fizzy and weird, bad bottle?

9) Jig Saw, 2005, $16

-Extracted, dark but varietals - easily the best.

-Different than expected. Fragrant metallic finish?
-Fragrant and nice acidity
